Exploding the Myths About Low back Pain

Most people with a significant back injury fully recover within 4 weeks. Level of pain at onset of an injury is NOT predictive of outcome. Quite often someone who experienced excruciating pain will make a full and speedy recovery.

Early activity after injury is strongly linked to early recovery. Total bed rest or sitting on the couch is often detrimental to recovery and can make you worse.

Fear and anxiety are normal. However not controlling these worries can make rehabilitation harder.

Anxiety, pessimistic thoughts and delay in rehabilitation slows recovery. Focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t.

If you have health questions then seek correct information from a health professional rather than self diagnose. When a person with an injury is aware of what they can do to help themselves they are more confident and have better outcomes. If you don’t know how to help yourself recover seek advice. Use those you know who are managing their situation well as role models.
